Shizugatake (Shiga)

Shizugatake hike

Shizugatake 421m (賤ヶ岳) is an easy dayhike with beautiful views of Lake Biwa and Lake Yogo. Its also famous for the battle of Shizugatake in 1583. If you go in spring there will be lots of flowers and the temperature will still be pleasant.

For the Lake Yogo trailhead there is no public transportation acesss. You can walk from Yogo Station (40min) or walk the trailhead that starts behind the lift. (Check yamap for distance and time)

To get to the lift take the train to Kinomoto station and walk 30min.

Trail description

The trail is pretty straightforward. Walk up to the ridge and then keep left. It takes about an hour to get up and 30min to get down. Once you get to the top, you'll have beautiful views of the two lakes. This hike is really nice as a dayhike from Nagoya or Kyoto to get away from the city. I imagine its quite hot in summer, so I would recommend spring or fall.
