Tsurugi (Shikoku)

Mount Tsurugi peak views

Mt.Tsurugi 1955m is the second tallest mountain on Shikoku and a scenic and easy dayhike. It's famous for it's fall colors and the drive to the ropeway is also very beautiful. Due to the fall colors it can get very crowded on weekends so it's best to visit it during the week. There is a chairlift which runs from mid April to December.

The trailhead starts at Minokoshi station.

Access by car is the recommended as public transportation is infrequent and only during peak season/weekends. Even if the bus is running it only has 2 departures a day.

In the fall season Tsurugi is very popular and the parking lot can get crowded. If you are planning to go during the weekend or on holidays either come very early or later in the day.

Trail description

Take the chairlift up and then continue walking up until you get to the Tsurugi Chojo Hutte. There is a little shrine here and the hut also serves food and is a nice stop for a break.

Tsurugi ropeway shikoku

It should take 30-45min to the hut and then it's only a couple more minutes to the actual peak. The peak is covered in boardwalks and has a couple of scenic viewing platforms, so make sure to explore the whole area.

If you decide to walk all the way from the parking lot it should be an extra 50min for the chairlift section.

You can stay overnight at Tsurugi Chojo Hutte.

There is also a campground just below the upper chairlift station.
