Hoki-Daisen 1709m (大山) is an easy dayhike in Tottori prefecture. The mountain is easily accessible by public transportation from Yonago Station. The trail is well maintained with a hut close to the peak. On the way to the peak you'll also pass a temple and you can walk part of it as a loop

Access
Take the train to Yonago Station. There change to the bus to Daisenji. Bus takes about 50min and costs 730Y one way. The bus stop is right next to the national park center with toilets and lockers. On the way to the trailhead you'll pass lots of little shops and restaurants, nice for a stop after the hike. There is even a Montbell store.
If coming by car you can also park at the National Park Center or just before the trailhead on the left if there is space.
Trail description
Walk through town and after a couple of minutes turn right towards the river and past the montbell store. Cross the bridge and after the river the trailhead will be on your left. The trail up is well maintained but quite steep. Your pretty much walking up the whole time until you get to the peak. Once you get to the little hut you almost made it. In summer they sell food and snacks too. On the way down you can take a different route that has some nice views of the mountain and you'll also pass through the temple. There is also a footbath in town.
Daisen is also a famous winter mountain, but I haven't climbed it with snow.
Accomodation
